Make ahead tip for a sunrise strawberry smoothie:
If you like to have a smoothie in the morning, but are crunched for time, consider making this ahead of time.
- Buy the ingredients in the amount that you would need for 3-4 smoothies.
- Take 3-4 freezer Ziploc baggies (quart or sandwich bag size).
- Portion the ingredients according to a single serving in each bag (minus the ice).
- Squeeze out all air when sealing.
- Store in your freezer til you are ready to make the smoothie.
- When ready to make pour all contents of the baggies into a blender and simply add water or milk to smooth it out the consistency you prefer.
This is a great way to have some breakfast meal prep done really quickly.
Variations
- Berries: Try adding, or substituting, berries other than fresh strawberries — try raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries.
- Chia: Chia seed can be a great healthy addition to this smoothie.
- Almond milk: For a little bit of nutty flavor, pour in a splash of unsweetened almond milk.
- Sweetener: If you want a sweeter smoothie, try using honey or your favorite alternative sweetener.
- Greens: Experiment with adding kale or spinach.
- Citrus: For bright flavor, and added vitamin C, try adding grapefruit juice, lemon juice, or oj.
- Thickness: We think this smoothie has the perfect consistency, but if you want it to be thicker, try adding medium bananas. For a thinner smoothie add more liquid like water, milk, or alternative milk products like coconut milk or almond milk.
- Fruit: Boost the fiber content with even more fruit. Try mango or pineapple for tropical flavors. Or, consider adding watermelon for a unique twist.
- Extracts: For nuanced flavor, try adding your favorite extract — vanilla and almond both work well.
- Ginger: Starting the day with a bit of ginger is great for digestive health.
