Cinnamon Roll Mocktail

I love cinnamon rolls. Seriously, if I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, I would probably pick cinnamon rolls and never complain.

They are doughy and so full of sweet and warm flavors — honestly, they make the perfect breakfast or dessert when the chilly temps come around.

I also love easy mocktails. So when I was looking for a fun mocktail recipe to share with my family and friends during the holidays I knew I had to try my hand at making something featuring cinnamon rolls, channeling all of that cinnamon flavor into an easy drink.

And that is how this cinnamon roll mocktail recipe came to life.

Cinnamon Roll Mocktail

It’s thick, it’s creamy, it’s extremely indulgent, and it has the perfect dose of cinnamon and brown sugar — it’s like a drinkable cinnamon roll in the best possible way. Also cooking it (because it needs to simmer for a bit) creates the most amazing bakery-style smell, so your home ends up smelling as if Santa’s workshop had installed a small cafe for the elves.

The reason why this is so creamy is that we are thickening it with egg yolks. If you have never used egg yolks for a drink before, fear not — it’s kind of like doing an eggnog and they get cooked with the warmth of the milk, so you are not consuming them raw. The only thing you need to be careful about is adding them slowly to the mix and mixing well so they don’t end up overcooked. Outside of that, it’s all smooth sailing.

Decorate your drink with a generous sprinkle of cinnamon and serve it hot with some cookies to dip. Or add some ice and make it a milkshake.

Tips For The Best Cinnamon Roll Mocktail

  • Allow the beverage to cool before storing in the refrigerator.
  • Use whole milk for the most creamy version of this beverage.
  • For folks who may like non-alcoholic drinks that more closely mimic their alcoholic counterparts, try offering zero proof spirits — non-alcoholic tequila, vodka, or whiskey would all work well in this mocktail.
  • If you want to sweeten this drink even more, try adding an ounce of maple syrup.
  • When removing from the refrigerator to serve, stir, rather than shake, the mocktail to incorporate all of the ingredients.
  • To make this on the regular, try making a simple syrup infused with the spices to make it even easier.
  • Use a cheesecloth or coffee filter to strain the mixture before refrigerating.
