Constructing a pastry house is a great way to have a blast and encourage Disney fans to use their creative skills. No matter if you’re a kid or just a kid at heart, you’ll love decorating a pop tart house with all of your favorite candies and sprinkles.

What is a Pop-Tart Gingerbread House?

You may be wondering what a Disney Pop-Tart House is and as you can probably guess it’s a version of the popular Christmas tradition—a gingerbread house!

Although there is still plenty of frosting, candies, and other red and green sprinkles, this delicious treat is made out of pop tarts! This adorable edible house can be used as a weekend activity, in a decorating competition, or even use it as a unique holiday breakfast centerpiece that you can eat!

Making a Pop Tart House

The directions below are a guide to give you a super cute idea and to show you how to use the breakfast food as the base of your house. Once the pop tart house is constructed, you can let your imagination run wild about how to decorate your miniature home.

If you have multiple children, or are working with a group of kids, it’s simple to set up a table and let each child or group decorate their own pop tart gingerbread house.

Make sure to take pictures of all the Christmas creativity that you and the kiddos put into decorating the house. You will want to remember the fun you had, and how great it looked before it got eaten!

Particularly if you have younger (read impatient) children you may want to go ahead and construct your Pop Tart Gingerbread house the night before. This will give the house plenty of time to set so that it will hold together, and you can bring the kid’s in the next day when it is time to decorate.

Easy Pop Tart House Recipe

One of the best things about this project is that we’re using store bought pop tarts and other simple ingredients, so there’s no cooking required.

Pop Tart Gingerbread House Instructions

Melt the red chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second increments, stirring in between each set. Once your chocolate has melted, spoon it into a pastry bag or sandwich Ziploc bag and cut a small tip out of the corner of the piping bag.

Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet to prevent your candy Mickey heads from sticking. Pipe the chocolate onto the tray making one medium circle with two smaller circles for the ears to form several Mickey Mouse heads. Let the chocolate dry completely.

Take a serrated knife and cut one pop tart evenly in half, hamburger style (cut in half to make to halves of a vertical pop tart). Take 2 more Pop-Tarts and cut off the top corners diagonally to make the front and back of your house.

The two remaining pop tarts will remain intact to use as roof pieces.

Prepare your vanilla icing pastry bag and cut a small to medium tip. Attach the side walls and the front of your pop tart house with the icing. Put some icing on the bottom of the side walls and front of your house to help it stick to a plate without sliding while you decorate.

Hold the front and side edges of the house together and let dry for approximately 10 minutes. Next, attach the roof made of two whole pop tarts and let it dry for another 20 minutes. Once the structure is assembled, it’s time for the fun part!

Note: If time (and patience) is short, assemble the house(s) the night before.

Decorating Your Pop-Tart House

Once your house has dried it’s time to start decorating! Use a small amount of frosting on the top of the house to place your red chocolate Mickey Mouse head. Then use frosting, sprinkles, and candy to decorate your house however you like.

Once your house is complete, you can also use icing and sprinkles to decorate and design a “yard” around the house on the plate or on the sides of the house. Let the house dry and set them aside to eat for dessert!

The whole family will enjoy spending the afternoon decorating these Disney Pop Tart houses! Not only will you have cute, unique table decor, but you also don’t have to worry about making dessert!
