Equipment

  • Nonstick cooking spray

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon rapid rise yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons coarse salt
  • 1 ½ cups warm tap water
  • Extra flour for the counter
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  • Combine the warm water and yeast in a large bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes. The water should not be too hot, hot water straight from the tap is fine.
  • Stir flour and salt into the yeast mixture until it is well combined.
  • Lay a clean kitchen towel over the bowl and place it in a warm area for an hour.
  • Just before the hour is up coat the inside of your dutch oven with nonstick cooking spray or you can also rub it down with a paper towel and vegetable oil.
  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  • Place the dutch oven with the lid on top into the hot oven and let it heat up for 10 minutes.
  • While it is heating up, flip the dough out onto a pre-floured counter and sprinkle a little more flour on top.
  • Fold the dough over 10-12 times to form a nice tight little ball.
  • If you like, cut a small strip across the top to help create a split down the center.
  • Carefully remove the hot dutch oven and place the dough in the center, replace the lid.
  • Bake for 30 minutes then remove the lid and bake for another 10-15 minutes, until desired golden crust color is reached.
  • Remove from the oven and move bread to a cooling rack for 5 minutes.
  • Slice and enjoy!

Notes

If you don’t already have one I highly recommend adding a  Dutch Oven to your kitchen. They are fantastic for soups, casseroles, desserts, chili, and of course bread! Preheating the dutch oven helps give your bread the beautiful golden crust you see.
